Heartland Payment Systems Security Issue
A security breach at Heartland Payment Systems has come to our attention and has included some Ravalli County Bank Visa check card numbers. This was not a breach of Ravalli County Bank account information, but rather at the credit card processing company which processes transactions and included a number of Ravalli County Bank Visa check card numbers. Although certain card account data was potentially compromised, that does not mean data related to your account was taken or that fraud has occurred on your account.
Protecting your account is of utmost importance to Ravalli County Bank. We take your account security and privacy very seriously. The layers of security in place at Ravalli County Bank are monitored closely in order to protect your personal information.
We were notified by Visa of the Heartland Payment Systems security issue and have been working closely with Visa to identify any fraudulent behavior and are continually monitoring accounts for suspicious activity. Ravalli County Bank participates in fraud protection programs to decrease your liability for unauthorized charges.
In order to protect yourself even further, the following steps can be taken to maximize the security of your check card and your personal information:
- Closely monitor your monthly account statements. Should you see any suspicious activity, notify Ravalli County Bank as soon as possible.
- Take advantage of Online Banking to monitor your transactions on a day to day basis. If you do not currently use Online Banking, stop by any of our locations to sign up.
- Guard your PIN as you would any other password. Refrain from writing down the number and do not verify or tell your PIN to anyone, whether it be your bank, a merchant or any other trusted individual or entity.
- Watch for "shoulder surfers" looking over your shoulder as you enter your PIN at an ATM or POS terminal.
- Shred or destroy all receipts, statements or any documents with personal information before discarding.
- Review your credit reports regularly through the three credit reporting agencies.
